The Kansas City Royals would like to add an outfielder, according to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, and the team will continue to keep their eye on the market for outfielders as the spring goes on.

The Royals currently project a starting outfield that includes Alex Gordon in left, Lorenzo Cain in center and Jeff Francoeur in right. Beyond their regulars, Kansas City has two relatively inexperienced players, David Lough and Jarrod Dyson, along with a pair of veterans, Endy Chavez and Xavier Nady, on their roster.

Entering the offseason, the Royals had top prospect Wil Myers waiting in the wings for a corner outfield position. However, he was shipped to the Tampa Bay Rays in the trade that sent James Shields and Wade Davis to Kansas City.

Now, the Royals are left in search of superior reserve options to those already with the team. It sounds like Kansas City will continue to monitor players that come available as camp progresses, those without options remaining and/or at risk of not landing a roster spot.

If Kansas City isn't satisfied with the options that present themselves toward the end of spring, they could also examine the remaining free agents. It's slim pickings at this point, but veteran options such as Bobby Abreu, Johnny Damon, Scott Podsednik and Grady Sizemore are left unsigned.
