Could Cubs closer Carlos Marmol be on his way out?

Cubs closer Carlos Marmol could be pitching for a different team as soon as Opening Day, reports Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago.

Marmol has been pursued by many teams, most notably the Tigers. The Tigers are currently slated to be going into the season with rookie Bruce Rondon as their closer, and there are certainly concerns about that.

Marmol was nearly traded to the Angels this past offseason, but the deal fell through as Dan Haren failed his physical, which voided the trade.

He struggled to start the 2012 season, but recovered nicely as the season wore on and was able to boost his trade stock enough to be worth something.

The team signed Japanese-closer Kyuji Fujikawa to a 2-year contract, and they may intend to use him as the team's closer. It is yet to be seen if Marmol would be interested in setting up for Fujikawa or if he would rather pursue a closing job elsewhere.
