Travis d'Arnaud injury: Mets C out with fractured foot

Jerome Miron-US PRESSWIRE

Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud suffered a fractured left foot and is returning to New York for further evaluation.

New York Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud suffered a fractured left foot and is returning to New York for further evaluation, according to Marc Carig of Newsday.

D'Arnaud suffered his injury when he fouled a pitch off his foot during a Triple-A contest, according to Carig. Meanwhile, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports the backstop sustained his broken foot while attempting to catch a foul ball.

Whatever the case, the ailment is officially being described as a non-displaced fracture of the catcher's first metatarsal in his left foot. He's currently in a walking boot, and there is no timetable for his return.

The Mets acquired D'Arnaud from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for R.A. Dickey over the winter. The 24-year-old entered the season considered one of the top prospects in the majors, and he was expected to make his major league debut at some point this season. Prior to his injury, he had maintained a batting average of .250 with one home run and eight RBI in 36 at-bats for the Mets' Triple-A affiliate.
