John Danks injury: No timetable for White Sox LHP

USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox still haven't set up a timetable for the return of left-handed starting pitching John Danks.

The Chicago White Sox still haven't set up a timetable for the return of left-handed starting pitching John Danks, according to Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago.

General manager Rick Hahn reiterated to reporters yesterday that there's no time frame for Danks, as the team wants the southpaw to "think big picture," according to Hayes.

Danks continues to recover from the procedure he underwent in August to repair his shoulder capsule and rotator cuff. While he is no longer experiencing discomfort, his velocity remains down and the White Sox want him to continue improving his command.

It was evident that something wasn't right with Danks this spring, as he allowed 21 runs on 27 hits in 11 innings pitched over four exhibition starts. He feels he's making strides, but Chicago will have to be convinced by his on-field performance, which is likely to come during a minor league rehab assignment or extended spring training.

After being one of the most consistent pitchers in the bigs over his first five seasons in the majors, Danks signed a five-year, $65 million contract extension with the White Sox prior to the 2012 campaign. He went on to struggle last year before undergoing season-ending surgery, posting an ERA of 5.70 over nine starts.
