Blanks hits a wall
The big outfielder was pulled from the game immediately, but is said to be fine other than the small cut on his eyelid he endured from his sunglasses breaking, reports Corey Brock of MLB.com. He needed four stitches for the cut.
The oft-injured Blanks is off to a solid start after missing most of 2012 with a shoulder injury, hitting .250/.333/.450 with a home run in 24 plate appearances.
Ross goes to DL
Just when you think the Padres have hit their upper limit on starting pitchers going to the disabled list, another one goes down. San Diego placed the right-handed Ross on the DL over the weekend because of subluxation (partial dislocation) in his non-throwing shoulder, which is probably just as painful as it sounds.
Friars ink Bonine
The Padres signed right-hander Eddie Bonine to a minor-league deal over the weekend almost immediately following his release by the Arizona Diamondbacks, per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The 31-year-old is on the comeback trail from Tommy John surgery and hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2010.
The right-hander owns a 4.74 ERA in 129 innings over three seasons, all of which came with the Detroit Tigers.
