Rangers rumors: David Murphy, Nolan Ryan

Bob Levey

David Murphy has yet to begin extension talks with the Rangers, while Nolan Ryan's tenure with the team could be coming to an end.

No serious contract talks for Murphy

Texas Rangers outfielder David Murphy told reporters -- including Anthony Andro of FOX Sports Southwest -- that he expects to play through the current season and "see what happens" in free agency. The 31-year-old added that there have been no "serious" talks regarding a contract extension between him and Rangers.

Murphy is in the final year of arbitration eligibility, and he's set to earn $5.775 million this season. If an extension agreement isn't reached, he'll hit the open market following the 2013 campaign.

Texas lost Josh Hamilton over the winter to free agency, and Murphy and fellow outfielder Nelson Cruz are currently free agents-to-be.

Ryan taking wait-and-see approach

Nolan Ryan will be at the Rangers home opener today, but issues remain between him and the team, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal adds that Ryan is taking a wait-and-see approach regarding the Rangers before he decides what his future is with the team.

There has been speculation that Ryan could part ways with Texas since general manager Jon Daniels' promotion was announced. It's unclear what will become of the legend, but he's going to at least be around long enough to help celebrate the new baseball season in Arlington.
