Aramis Ramirez injury: Brewers place 3B on disabled list with knee sprain

USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed third baseman Aramis Ramirez on the disabled list due to a left knee sprain.

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed third baseman Aramis Ramirez on the disabled list due to a left knee sprain, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

In a corresponding move, the Brewers recalled utility player Josh Prince from Triple-A to take Ramirez's spot on the roster.

Ramirez underwent an MRI exam on his injured knee which confirmed the sprain. He suffered the injury during last night's contest.

It's currently unclear how long of a recovery period Ramirez will require, but he did say last night after sustaining the sprain that it felt worse than the ailment that sidelined him for two weeks during spring training. Following Ramirez's early exit, the Brewers shifted infielder Alex Gonzalez over to third base. Gonzalez had been manning first base with Corey Hart and Mat Gamel on the DL.

Ramirez signed with the Brewers prior to last season, and he went on to hit .300/.360/.540 with 50 doubles and 27 home runs over 630 plate appearances. The 34-year-old owns a career batting line of .286/.344/.503 over 16 seasons in the majors.
