After crashing awkwardly into the fence during Sunday's game, the Boston outfielder had his back and ribs examined at a local hospital.

UPDATE: Good news, Sox fans. All the X-rays on Shane Victorino's back and ribs came back negative, meaning he is clear to play on Tuesday, reports Rob Bradford of WEEI.

ORIGINAL: Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino was sent to a local hospital following Sunday's game to have his back and ribs examined, reports Rob Bradford of WEEI.

No details of the visit have been released as of yet, but any trip to the hospital is cause for some concern. Manager John Farrell said that "everything points to" Victorino being back in the lineup on Tuesday, but we'll have updates here as more information is made known.

The 32-year-old was party to a cringe-worthy collision with the right field wall during the fourth inning of Sunday's rubber match against the Blue Jays, and was on the ground in pain for several minutes following the crash. The Flyin' Hawaiian stayed in the game initially, but was forced out of the lineup a few innings later when the soreness increased.

Farrell explained that Victorino's back and side stiffened up as the game progressed, and that the team didn't want to take any chances given his recent lower back problems. Victorino has been dealing with back issues since April 25, but it hasn't seemed to affect his performance in the week-plus he's been back in the lineup full-time.

A big part of Boston's hot start to the season, Victorino is hitting .308/.370/.393 with two home runs in 29 games.
