Astros notes: Altuve, Norris, Humber

Taking a loot at some recent news involving Astros players.

The Houston Astros have struggled to start the season, going 11-30 in their first 41 games, but managed to avoid some serious injuries to a couple of their key players.

Altuve to return on Satruday

Jose Altuve will return to the team on Saturday after being placed on the bereavement list following the death of his grandmother in Venezuela. Altuve arrived in Pittsburgh on Friday, as the Astros are currently on the road facing the Pirates, but manager Bo Porter held the second baseman out of the lineup one more game.

Altuve suffered a partially dislocated jaw after colliding into Jimmy Paredes on Monday, but has recovered from the injury. Infielder Jake Elmore will be sent back down to Triple-A after Friday's game.

Norris start pushed back

Bud Norris will receive two extra days of rest after leaving his start on Monday against the Detroit Tigers with lower back spasms. The starter will pitch on Tuesday at home against the Kansas City Royals instead of Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Porter said that Norris could have made the start if necessary, but the team was opting to be cautious with the right-handed pitcher. It also sets up Norris to pitch at Minute Maid Park, where he is 3-1 with a 2.30 ERA in his first five home starts.

Humber accepts assignment

Philip Humber cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Astros, and has accepted his assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Humber is expected to join the team on Friday.

Houston designated the veteran pitcher for assignment following a disastrous relief performance Sunday against the Texas Rangers. Humber began the season in the starting rotation, but received a demotion to the bullpen after struggling in that role as well.
