Dodgers rumors: Andre Ethier drawing interest from multiple clubs

USA TODAY Sports

Multiple teams are internally discussing bringing in Andre Ethier -- and a couple have already inquired.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are fielding calls inquiring about a possible trade for outfielder Andre Ethier, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Cafardo's report follows speculation by Ken Rosenthal (among others) that Ethier would be a good fit with the Mets. Rosenthal's reasoning was that the Mets both need and can afford Ethier with Jason Bay, Johan Santana, and Frank Francisco coming off the books.

This time around, Cafardo is saying there's 'no doubt' the Red Sox have discussed it but it doesn't make sense for them yet:

There’s no doubt the Red Sox have mulled it, but with Daniel Nava hitting well, Shane Victorino about to return, and Jonny Gomes starting to heat up, there doesn’t appear to be a need. Ethier is a good friend of Dustin Pedroia, and there’s a good chance Pedroia could motivate him and get him out of his malaise. But it’s not a chance the Red Sox want to take at this juncture.

The big question around any move for Ethier is how much of his remaining contract the acquiring team is willing to assume. Jon Heyman reported just last week that rival executives expect the Dodgers will likely have to pay at least half of his remaining 5-year, $85 million contract.

Which other teams could be interested? Everyone assumes the Mets make the most sense, as we talked about yesterday. Other teams in various stages of interest could be the Yankees, Pirates, Rangers, Athletics, Orioles, and White Sox. And with a hole the size of Wil Myers in right field, maybe the Royals too?

Where should Ethier land? Comment below.
