The Brewers place Ryan Braun on the 15-day disabled list and call up Caleb Gindl.

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed outfielder Ryan Braun on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 10th) with a right thumb contusion and will recall Caleb Gindl to take his place, according to the team's senior director of media relations, Mike Vassallo.

Braun, who has been sidelined for the last four games due to the injury, will be able to re-join the team on June 25th if he is healthy. After taking batting practice and experiencing soreness in the thumb on Friday, Braun conferred with the team and decided that a disabled list stint would be the best option. This is the first time in Braun's seven year major league career that he has spent time on the disabled list.

In 57 games for the disappointing Brewers team so far this season, Braun is hitting .304 with 9 HR and 36 RBI. The 2011 National League MVP has also been the subject of much controversy due to his involvement with the Biogenesis scandal, and may be suspended as the season progresses.

Gindl, who is already on the team's 40-man roster, will make his major league debut for the Brewers in Braun's absence. The 24-year old was drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 draft by Milwaukee, and has spent the last three seasons with Triple-A Nashville. In 64 games on the season, Gindl has hit .274 with 8 HR and 38 RBI.
