Yankees release Cody Eppley

The New York Yankees have released right-hander Cody Eppley from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, according to the International League's official transactions page. In 19 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre so far this season, the 27-year old has posted a 2-2 record and 8.53 ERA, and has given up four earned runs in 1.2 innings in the majors. Eppley, who appeared in ten games for the 2011 Rangers, pitched well for the Yankees out of the bullpen in 2012, posting a 3.33 ERA in 46 innings of work. He was designated for assignment by the team in May, but cleared waivers and was outrighted to the minors.

Red Sox release Oscar Villarreal

The Boston Red Sox released righty Oscar Villarreal from Triple-A Pawtucket, according to the International League's official transactions page. The 31-year old, who signed a minor league deal with the Sox in November, was 4-2 with a 4.44 ERA in 14 appearances out of the Pawtucket bullpen so far this season. In six major league seasons with the Diamondbacks (2003-2005), Braves (2006-2007), and Astros (2008), Villarreal is 24-15 with a 3.86 ERA in 336 innings pitched. According to tweets from Villarreal, he is heading to Mexico to join the Sultanes de Monterrey until another offer comes along in the United States.

Twins sign Caleb Brewer

The Minnesota Twins signed right-hander Caleb Brewer and assigned him to Low-A Cedar Rapids, according to the official MLB.com transactions page. The 24-year old former Braves prospect was released by Atlanta after seven years in the system in which he never advanced past High-A. In 15 games with High-A Lynchburg this season, Brewer is 0-1 with a 4.01 ERA.

In case you missed it earlier, MLBDailyDish.com was the first to report that infielder Corey Wimberly has signed with the Cincinnati Reds.
