The 2014 White Sox.

I have read and heard a lot of White Sox fans advocating that GM Rick Hahn have a fire sale, blow the roster up, and begin a long-term rebuilding project similar to that of the crosstown Cubs. I don't agree.

The team has only 4 free agents this off-season, including Matt Lindstrom, who they hold a 4 million team option on, with a 500 thousand buyout. I do not expect any of them to be re-signed. Both Jesse Crain and Lindstrom should be traded for prospects, while both Paul Konerko and DeWayne Wise should probably retire, as players anyway.

This is my projected 25-man roster, including only players who are under team control for next season, before any trade acquisitions or free agents are added:

Pitchers Jake Peavy, John Danks, Chris Sale, Jose Quintana, Hector Santiago, Addison Reed, Nate Jones, Simon Castro, Erik Johnson, Andre Rienzo, Spencer Arroyo and Scott Snodgress.

Catchers Josh Phegley and Tyler Flowers.

Infielders Alexei Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, Jeff Keppinger, Conor Gillaspie, Brent Morel and Carlos Sanchez.

Outfielders Alex Rios, Alejandro De Aza, Dayan Viciedo and Jordan Danks.

Designated hitter/1st baseman Adam Dunn.

I would recommend signing free agent James Loney away from the Rays to replace Konerko, and giving middle infielder Carlos Sanchez, who has really struggled this season, more time at AAA Charlotte.

I would also recommend signing free agent Jacoby Ellsbury away from the Red Sox to play center field and lead off, making De Aza the 4th outfielder, meaning that he could platoon with either Viciedo in left field or Rios in right field, depending on who was struggling the most against opposing right-handed pitchers. Then John Danks' little brother Jordan could battle Morel, Blake Tekotte and Casper Wells for the 25th roster spot, at least until Sanchez proves himself to be Major League ready.
