The free agent catcher replaces Mike Zunino, who is lost to injury.

The Seattle Mariners have signed catcher Humberto Quintero to a major league contract, according to a source. Quintero elected free agency earlier today after being designated for assignment by the Phillies earlier in the week.

Quintero will replace catcher Mike Zunino, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand and will miss approximately six weeks due to injury.

Quintero, 33, has hit .250 with 2 HR and 9 RBI in 24 games with the Phillies on the year. He has also spent 8 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, hitting .292 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. He is a veteran of eleven major league seasons with the Padres (2003-2004), Astros (2005-2011), Royals (2012) and Phillies (2013), and is a lifetime .235 hitter with 18 HR and 122 RBI.
