Diamondbacks trade rumors: Arizona shopping Ian Kennedy, Jason Kubel

USA TODAY Sports

The D-Backs have been quiet on the trade market so far, but may look to move the pair in the next three days.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are actively shopping pitcher Ian Kennedy and outfielder Jason Kubel, according to MLB Network's Peter Gammons. Gammons links the D-Backs to Jake Peavy, but says that they would not have enough money to go after Peavy if they dealt Kennedy and Kubel.

Kennedy, 28, is 3-7 with a 5.22 ERA on the season after finishing fourth in NL Cy Young award voting in 2012.

His name has not been mentioned on the trade market before now, but his performance last year would likely make him attractive to contenders looking to add an arm.

Kennedy is under team control through the 2015 season, which is longer than most of the starting pitching options on the trade market are.

Kubel, 31, has hit .234 with 5 HR and 27 RBI in 70 games on the season for Arizona. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the D-Backs would look to move him in exchange for a pitcher, but his poor performance on the year means that his value is likely low at this time.

Arizona is almost guaranteed to decline the $7.5 million option on Kubel's contract for next season, so he does not factor into the team's long-term plans.

Although the Diamondbacks have been quiet on the trade market, they have been looking to acquire a young, controllable starting pitcher and have had interest in Yovani Gallardo, Chris Sale and Jeff Samardzija.

It now looks like those three players are off the market, so the D-Backs will have to look elsewhere if they want to acquire a starter. According to FOXSportsArizona's Jack Magruder, the team has also been looking for a right-handed reliever in trade talks.
