Phillies trade rumors: Michael Young willing to accept deal to Red Sox, Rangers

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The veteran third baseman previously said he would only go to the Rangers.

Contrary to his original statement, Philadelphia Phillies third baseman is now willing to accept any trade to the Boston Red Sox, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. Young revealed yesterday that he would only waive his full no-trade clause for a deal that would send him back to the Rangers, but it appears that was just a ploy to return to the place where he spent the first thirteen years of his career.

The Red Sox are a fit for Young after shipping third baseman Jose Iglesias to the Tigers in last night's Jake Peavy deal, but their a deal is doubtful at this point, according to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com.

Young, who is the most likely Phillie to be dealt before the deadline, has also drawn interest from the Orioles, Reds and Yankees. While he would probably accept a deal to the Bronx, the Rangers are his top choice, followed by the Red Sox. Now that both Texas and Boston seem unlikely to acquire him, he may be presented with a deal to the Yankees, and will have to decide if he wants to play in New York.
