Biogenesis investigation: Suspensions coming for Braun, A-Rod, others

Major League Baseball is expected to suspend up to 20 players linked to the ongoing Biogenesis investigation.

Major League Baseball is expected to suspend Ryan Braun, Alex Rodriguez, and as many as 20 other players linked to the league's ongoing Biogenesis investigation, according to a report from T.J. Quinn and Mike Fish of While the lengths of the impending suspensions are unknown, they will be enforced sometime after next week's All-Star break.

The commissioner's office is considering 100-game suspensions for Rodriguez and Braun because the league believes that the players committed multiple offenses by receiving performance-enhancement drugs and lying about it, according to the Quinn and Fish.

Braun, who is known to never address the drug-related allegations against him, refused to answer questions in a recent meeting with league officials. As Adam McCalvy of tweets, Braun will stick to his policy of not answering questions from reporters about the Biogenesis case.

While the league has conducted interviews with many players linked to the Biogenesis case, Rodriguez has not been interviewed, according to the report. He is currently rehabbing in the Yankees' minor league system.

Although it is unknown which players will be suspended, players linked to the case include Braun (Brewers), Rodriguez (Yankees), Melky Cabrera (Blue Jays), Everth Cabrera (Padres), Francisco Cervelli (Yankees), Bartolo Colon (Athletics), Nelson Cruz (Rangers), Fautino de los Santos (free agent), Yasmani Grandal (Padres), Fernando Martinez (Yankees), Jesus Montero (Mariners), Jordan Norberto (free agent), Jhonny Peralta (Tigers), and Cesar Puello (Mets). Nationals' starter Gio Gonzalez is also linked to the clinic, but only received legal substances, according to ESPN.

As Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports, no decisions on suspensions have been made yet, but they are expected to come in the next couple weeks.
