Royals re-sign Adam Moore

USA TODAY Sports

The catcher was released last week to clear a 40-man spot.

The Kansas City Royals have re-signed catcher Adam Moore to a contract that will keep him in the organization through the 2014 season, a source has confirmed to MLB Daily Dish. The 29-year old was released last Thursday to clear a 40-man roster spot for Francisley Bueno.

Due to a torn groin, Moore is out for the rest of the season. He is currently in Arizona rehabbing that injury and is expected to return in time for spring training next season.

In five major league games this season, Moore hit 3-for-10 with a double. He also appeared in 41 games for Triple-A Omaha, hitting .191 with 8 HR and 23 RBI.

Moore, a sixth round pick of the Mariners in the 2006 draft, has seen major league time in parts of five seasons with the Mariners (2009-2011) and Royals (2012-2013). In 77 career games, he has hit .200 with 6 HR and 19 RBI in 271 plate appearances.

Moore will likely head to spring training next year to provide minor league depth for the Royals behind catchers Salvador Perez and George Kottaras.
