After being designated for assignment, the 30-year old heads to the other side of the AL West race.

The Texas Rangers have claimed infielder Adam Rosales off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, according to a team announcement. The 30-year old was designated for assignment by Oakland on Wednesday to make room for the newly-acquired Alberto Callaspo.

In 50 games with Oakland on the season, Rosales has hit .193 with 4 HR and 8 RBI. He has also spent 12 games with Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .280 with 1 HR and 7 RBI. He can play anywhere in the infield, and also has spent some time in left field.

Rosales was designated for assignment earlier in the year, and Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram notes that Texas wanted to pick him up back then.

Rosales will immediately report to the Rangers' major league team and play a variety of positions, according to reports. He is expected to be a temporary fix in left field for the Rangers due to the impending suspension of Nelson Cruz, but the team will likely pursue offensive upgrades like the Twins' Josh Willingham in August waiver-wire deals.

In 301 career major league games over six seasons with the Reds (2008-2009) and Athletics (2010-2013), Rosales has hit .220 with 19 HR and 76 RBI. He tweeted his gratitude towards the Athletics' organization once the move was official.
