Phillies interested in Roger Bernadina

Joy R. Absalon-US PRESSWIRE

The 29-year old may head from one NL East team to another.

After being released by the Nationals on Monday to make room for the newly-acquired David DeJesus, outfielder Roger Bernadina may find his next home with one of Washington's division rivals. According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, the Phillies are interested in signing the 29-year old for the rest of the season.

Bernadina hit only .178 with 2 HR and 6 RBI in 85 games with the Nats on the year, but has shown promise as a left-handed bench option in the past. In 2010, he hit .246 with 11 HR and 47 RBI in 134 games. Bernadina's versatility allows him to play all three outfield positions, and he has shown some speed throughout his career (56 stolen bases in 468 games).

Salisbury notes that the Phillies are always on the lookout for center field depth, meaning that Bernadina would be a fit for this season and possibly beyond. It is unclear if any other teams have expressed interest to this point.
