The left-hander heads to the third NL East team of his career.

The New York Mets have signed left-hander John Lannan to a minor league contract that includes an invite to major league spring training, according to a team announcement.

Lannan, 29, will likely compete for a spot in the Mets' rotation against Jenrry Mejia, Rafael Montero, Jacob deGrom and any other depth options who are signed before the start of camp. He had left knee surgery towards the end of last season, but is expected to be fully recovered before spring training opens next month.

Lannan, a Long Island native, was 3-6 with a 5.33 ERA in 14 starts with the Phillies last season after signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract in December 2012. He was outrighted off the Phillies' 40-man roster in October, and opted to become a free agent instead of staying in the team's minor league system.

Lannan has spent his entire major league career in the NL East, earning a career 45-58 record and 4.12 ERA in 148 starts with the Nationals (2007-2012) and Phillies (2013).

In other news, the Mets inked shortstop Omar Quintanilla and right-hander Giancarlo Alvarado to minor league deals. Quintanilla will receive a spring training invite, but Alvarado will not.
