Suk-min Yoon rumors: Korean righty could sign soon

Richard Heathcote

Yoon, 27, is currently talking with two clubs. Since he's an outright free agent, no posting fee applies.

Korean right hander Yoon Suk-min has received four offers from MLB teams, and is currently in talks with two, according to Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net (via Korean article on Naver Sports).

Yoon, a Scott Boras client, is widely considered the best pitcher in Korea, despite lacking "an overpowering arm," as Boras puts it. the 27-year-old's fast ball tops out at 91 to 92 miles per hour, but could show an arsenal of three plus pitches -- fastball, changeup, breaking ball.

He could serve as a reliever in the majors thanks to some experience in the Korea Baseball Organization as a closer. After Dodgers lefty Hyun-jin Ryu made the transition to MLB, Yoon became the ace of the KBO -- although he struggled to some extent in 2013 due to a shoulder injury. Yoon posted a 4.16 ERA in 11 starts, and a 3.60 ERA in 19 relief appearances.

Yoon was good enough to win the league MVP award in 2011 (while Ryu was still there), putting up a 2.45 ERA, striking out more than one batter an inning, and walking just 2.3 per nine innings in 172⅓ frames. Yoon followed that up with a 3.12 ERA, and similar peripherals through 153 innings in 2012.

He's one of the youngest pitchers remaining on the market, and he won't require a posting fee as an outright free agent. The Giants, Red Sox, and Twins have been linked to Yoon in rumors.
