The right-hander heads to Chicago on a one-year, $6 million contract.

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to sign right-handed starter Jason Hammel to a one-year, $6 million contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.comJeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports first reported that the deal was for one year, with Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com noting that Hammel will receive $6 million in guaranteed money and an additional $1 million if he achieves certain incentive clauses.

Hammel, 31, had five teams interested in signing him as of last weekend, according to a source with direct knowledge of his free agency. The Pirates, Royals, Braves, Rockies, Indians and Orioles were all linked to him this offseason, but he will instead head to Chicago to join Travis Wood, Edwin Jackson and Jeff Samardzija in the Cubs' starting rotation.

In 26 games (23 starts) with the Orioles last season, Hammel was 7-8 with a 4.97 ERA in 139.1 innings of work. He has made at least five starts in each of the last five seasons, and owns a career 49-59 record and 4.80 ERA in eight major league seasons with the Rays (2006-2008), Rockies (2009-2011) and Orioles (2012-2013).
