The outfielder has a stress fracture in his right wrist and will miss significant time.

The Tampa Bay Rays received some bad news on Tuesday, when it was revealed that outfielder Wil Myers will miss at least two months with a stress fracture in his right wrist. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Myers will be in a cast for 5-6 weeks before starting rehab, meaning that he will likely return in early August.

Myers injured his wrist in a collision with Desmond Jennings on Friday night at Fenway Park, and was initially placed on the disabled list with what the team thought was just a sprain. The injury is much worse than that, and will leave the Rays without their starting right-fielder for a considerable amount of time.

In Myers' absence, the last-place Rays will go with a starting outfield of David DeJesus, Desmond Jennings and Matt Joyce, with Ben Zobrist, Kevin Kiermaier and Logan Forsythe serving as depth. Prospect Mikie Mahtook, who was ranked as the team's 25th best prospect following last season, is hitting .337 at Triple-A Durham, and may be in line for a promotion due to Myers' extended absence.

In 53 games for the Rays this season, Myers has hit .227 with 5 HR and 25 RBI. Last year's AL Rookie of the Year has struggled a bit so far, but his absence will leave a significant hole in a struggling Rays' lineup.
