The Padres are shopping infielder Yangervis Solarte, and the Dodgers are among the teams interested, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
Solarte has proven to be a versatile piece and can play first, second and third base. He is a candidate to start at third for the Dodgers if the club is unable to re-sign Justin Turner, Rosenthal adds.
Even if the Dodgers are able to retain Turner, Solarte could play second base in Los Angeles. However, San Diego might not be open to sending Solarte to a division rival.
Solarte, 29, had a productive 2016 season with the Padres, batting .286/.341/.467 with one home run and 15 RBIs over 109 games. He is a career .271 hitter and doesn’t bring much power, though he has hit a combined 29 home runs the last two seasons.
Because Solarte is arbitration eligible for the first time in 2017, the Padres will likely have a high asking price. Still, the Dodgers and Padres might be able to get a deal done.
