You Sure About That? MLBDD Week 7 Review
We get it -- everyone is busy. Hey, we are too! That's why we know it's easy to miss the many trades and transactions, extensions, moves, and everything in between (and that says nothing of the number of rumors flying past us).
So, just in case you missed something over the past week, here's a review of everything (non-rumor) we covered starting with the oldest first:
- Oakland Athletics To Sign Yoenis Cespedes - MLB Daily Dish
According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Oakland Athletics have signed free agent Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. - David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox Avoid Arbitration - MLB Daily Dish
The Boston Red Sox and designated hitter David Ortiz have come to an agreement today to avoid arbitration, according to Buster Olney from ESPN. The deal is a one year agreement worth $14.75 million, the middle ground for what the two sides were fighting for. - Blue Jays, Casey Janssen Avoid Arbitration - MLB Daily Dish
The Toronto Blue Jays and reliever Casey Janssen are nearing a two-year deal with an option to successfully avoid salary arbitration, reports Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.
What What What Just Happened? MLBDD Week 5 in Review
Enjoy the SuperBowl? If you're like the rest of us, it's easy to forget everything that happened over the last week, and what you didn't forget you could have easily missed. So, what just happened? The big news of the week was the Edwin Jackson signing in Washington and the Josh Hamilton relapse (ugh), but there were tons of other stories in between.
Here's our week 5 in review, starting with the oldest first:
- Pittsburgh Pirates Sign Juan Cruz To Minor League Deal - MLB Daily Dish
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed relief pitcher Juan Cruz to a minor league contact with an invitation to Spring Training, as the team announced on Wednesday. Cruz has bounced around with numerous teams since hitting the majors as an elite, flame-throwing pitching prospect back in 2001. - Washington Nationals Sign Chad Durbin To Minor League Contract - MLB Daily Dish
The Washington Nationals have signed relief pitcher Chad Durbin to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN. Last year, Durbin landed a Major League contract with the Cleveland Indians in March but struggled for most of the season.
Let me get this straight, they what? MLBDD Week 4 in Review
Lots going on over the past week, so you can't be blamed if you missed something. Here's a summary of every move, signing, and transaction over the past week, oldest first:
- Cincinnati Reds Sign Willie Harris to Minor League Deal - MLB Daily Dish
The Cincinnati Reds have signed outfielder Willie Harris to a minor league deal, according to John Fay via twitter.... - Diamondbacks Claim Craig Tatum - MLB Daily Dish
Tatum, 28, is entering his fourth season in the Majors and has had stints with both the Cincinnati Reds and the Baltimore Orioles. A generally terrible hitter (.223 / .291 / .264 career), perhaps the Diamondbacks think Tatum can catch BP or provide a touch of depth behind Miguel Montero and Henry Blanco. - Padres Avoid Arbitration with Clayton Richard - MLB Daily Dish
The San Diego Padres avoided arbitration with LHP Clayton Richard, agreeing to terms with him on a one-year contract. Richard, 28, posted a 3.88 ERA in 18 starts with San Diego in 2011.
Hold Up, Wait a Sec, What? MLBDD Week 3 In Review
Not gonna lie -- the past week was one of the busiest we've ever had, both with signings and rumors and with new readers. Needless to say we're extremely pleased at both the work and the recognition! Thanks so much for joining us.
One thing I'm making a point to do weekly is a quick review on Monday mornings, covering every non-rumor you might have missed over the past week. This week was pretty heavy with arbitration news and a couple big trades, so I'm going to link the most relevant and impacting. Starting with the oldest, to the newest, here are the major stories of the past week:
- Colorado Rockies, Seth Smith Avoid Arbitration - MLB Daily Dish
The Colorado Rockies and Seth Smith have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.42 million contract. - Oakland Athletics Acquire Seth Smith - MLB Daily Dish
Just after they signed him to a one-year, $2.4M contract to avoid arbitration, the Colorado Rockies have traded outfielder Seth Smith to the Oakland Athletics according to Colorado's team twitter account. The Rockies in return acquire pitchers Josh Outman and Guillermo Moscoso.
Wait wait what just happened? MLBDD Week 2 Review
Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! If you're off, enjoy it. If you're not, make it better by enjoying the TON of rumors, trades, signings, and news we covered in Week 2 of 2012.
Lots going on this past week -- quite a few teams and players working to avoid arbitration, a MAJOR trade between the Yankees and Mariners, and a number of dust-settling moves that continue to shape the market and what will eventually be the 2012 season. We'll start with the oldest first:
- Chicago Cubs, Paul Maholm Sign 1-Year, $4.75M Deal - MLB Daily Dish
The Chicago Cubs have signed Paul Maholm to a 1-year, $4.35 million deal, according to Bruce Levine via twitter, confirming earlier rumors (and Maholm's own twitter account from last night). Pat Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune suggests that the move could give the Cubs flexibility to move Matt Garza: - Baltimore Orioles Sign Chen Wei-Yen, DFA Kyle Hudson, Sign Willie Eyre - MLB Daily Dish
The Chen Wei-Yin signing is now official, according to Britt Ghiroli. Chen is signing a three-year deal with a club option for 2015, and Dan Connolly says it should come in under $12 million total. Kyle Hudson was DFA'd to make room on the 40-man.
Whoa whoa what just happened? MLBDD Week 1 Review

Where Were We? MLBDD Week 51 in Review
Welcome back, if you were gone. If you're still here, thanks for staying! I hope everyone had a good weekend celebrating your holidays of choice. While we wipe the sleep, egg nog, and various other objects from our still-tired eyes, let's take a moment to answer, "where were we?" Here's a review of the trades and transactions we covered during week 51:
- Padres Sign Jeremy Hermida to a Minor League Deal - MLB Daily Dish
Jerry Crasnick is reporting the San Diego Padres have signed Jeremy Hermida to a minor league deal. - Diamondbacks Sign Jason Kubel - MLB Daily Dish
The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed Jason Kubel to a 2-year, $15 million deal (krasovic / heyman). Ken Rosenthal confirms the report and suggests Kubel will play in left field for the Diamondbacks, which likely makes Gerrado Parra their forth outfielder: - Nationals to Sign Mike Cameron - MLB Daily Dish
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Washington Nationals have signed Mike Cameron, beating out presumed interest by the Cleveland Indians. Terms are unknown, but it is likely a minor league contract... - Kansas City Royals Sign Yuniesky Betancourt - MLB Daily Dish
Today, the Kansas City Royals have announced that they have signed short stop Yuniesky Betancourt.
MLBDD Opinions & Editorials: Alonso, Rizzo, Cuddyer, Braun
Now that you're caught up with the whirlwind of MLB moves over the past week, take a breather while checking out some of our editorial coverage with a look at the Yonder Alonso trade, the Michael Cuddyer signing, a great interview by Marisa of Pinestripe Alley's Brandon C, and a completely harmless poll about PED use and player image:
- How Does the Yonder Alonso Trade Affect Anthony Rizzo? - MLB Daily Dish
Yesterday, the San Diego Padres traded their left handed pitcher Mat Latos to the Cincinnati Reds. In return, along with a slew of prospects, the Padres received first baseman Yonder Alonso. Alonso was blocked in Cincinnati by former NL MVP Joey Votto at first base, so it was not surprising that he got traded. - Did the Rockies Overpay for Michael Cuddyer? - MLB Daily Dish
Cuddyer has had a very nice career, but he's 32 which means his best years are probably long behind him. Committing that money to an aging and declining player who was already leaning toward the one-dimensional side will prove to be foolish.
