Rockies Closing In On Two Deals

The Rockies are very close to resigning free agent reliever Matt Herges and catcher Yorvit Torrealba. Herges, arguably the most important reliever for the Rockies in September, went 5-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 35 games. "We are close, that is fair to say," said Herges' agent Danny Horwits. "But we aren't done yet. There are still other teams involved." Torrealba earns a three year deal after his performance this season. All his offensive numbers were not great, his ability to call games did not go unnoticed. It seems Kaz Matsui is on his way, probably to the Astros or Cubs. Both have offered more money and have talked with Matsui more than the Rockies. These three contracts should be finalized next week.

Johan Santana to be traded?: After the Twins made a five year, 93 million dollar offer to Johan Santana, he countered for 126 million dollars. I'm sure this means that the Twins will trade him, probably during the Winter Meetings. Where he is going, who knows? I'm sure half the league is interested. The Red Sox, Yankees, Cardinals, Mets, Dodgers, and maybe even Angels seem to be most interested, among other teams.
