Diamondbacks top prospect Max Scherzer is no longer in Triple-A. According to Nick Piecoro, the Diamondbacks have optioned Yusmeiro Petit and called up the hard throwing Max Scherzer. He had a 1.17 ERA in four starts, striking out 38 and walking three in 23 innings. Scherzer appears casted as a closer for the Diamondbacks, but if Micah Owings cannot pitch Friday, they will use him. The bullpen hasn't been taxed much, but why not get him a couple of innings while the team is hitting well.Filed under:
