Cubs Sign Dempster

New, comment
The Cubs and Ryan Dempster have agreed to a four year deal worth 52 million dollars, according to Ken Rosenthal. Dempster went 17-6 with a 2.96 ERA for the Cubs this season, and was reportedly drawing interest from a dozen teams. Dempster was a fairly successful closer for the Cubs through 2007, saving 87 games. He will return to the rotation probably in three spot, behind Ted Lilly.

Cubs GM Jim Hendry did not rule out anything this offseason, hinting at possibility going after Jake Peavy as well.
