Cubs to Retire 31 for Maddux, Jenkins

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Cubs are going to retire number 31 for Hall of Fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins and future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux. Jenkins won a Cy Young with the Cubs, and still holds the team strikeout record with 2,038. Maddux won at least 15 games for 17 straight seasons, as well as 18 Gold Gloves. Unlike Jenkins, Maddux played in several playoffs over the course of his career, gaining more public attention. However, Jenkins won 20 games six straight seasons in a row, and was named to three All-Star teams.

Jenkins thought they were going to retire 31 when they didn't let Ted Lilly wear it -- he was right. May 3rd will be nice day at Wrigley Field.
