Lackey Talks Progressing Slowly

Talks between the Angels and John Lackey are moving slower than expected, MLB.com is reporting. Lackey told MLB.com that he was not impressed with the Angels' efforts, saying that he is not inclined to give a hometown discount. Lackey is reportedly looking for a deal similar to A.J. Burnett, perhaps five years in the range of 85-90 million dollars. However, the economic recession has hurt the value of dollar in the baseball, driving prices way down. This has already halted negotiations between the Red Sox and Jason Bay, and could do the same to Lackey.

Lackey, who is 91-63 with a 3.81 ERA in 207 career games, would be the top available pitcher if he were to become a free agent next season.
