The Washington Times is reporting that the Nationals asked Dodgers GM Ned Colletti for permission to speak with Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly about their vacant manageri. Mattingly has expressed a desire to manage in the big leagues, and may inquire about available positions after the postseason.
Mattingly is familiar with the Nationals core of young players, but it is unclear whether or not he is interested in a rebuilding job.
"You listen to everyone," Mattingly said. "I'm flattered there's some organizations out there that think I'm capable of it or at least talked to me about it. You get to know them, they get to know you and you see where it goes from there."
Mattingly has also drawn interest from the Indians.
