Blue Jays fire J.P. Ricciardi

FOXSports.com is reporting that the Blue Jays have fired general manager J.P. Ricciardi after eight seasons as the teams GM.

"J.P. has put an incredible amount of effort into improving the team and he has brought along a number of great young players," Beeston said. "However, I feel that it is time for a change and accordingly we have decided to move on."

Ricciardi made some poor free agent signings, which didn't help his spotty draft record, which produced several good players, but few elite ones.

Assistant general manager Alex Anthopoulous will take over as the teams general manager until a new team president is named.
