When I started my first MLB blog, I was a 15-year old high school sophomore. One of the most forthcoming and accessible baseball executives I was able to talk to was Kevin Towers. He shared a lot of baseball insight with me and encouraged me to stick with my fledgling enterprise. I am not alone in thinking of him as an all-around good guy in the game, well-liked and highly regarded by player, executives and sportswriters alike.
So, while it is likely that he will be hired sooner rather than later (Toronto has an opening..) he was unceremoniously let go by new (since March) Padres CEO Jeff Moorad, without any real reason given. Towers held the job for fourteen years and seems to be just a victim of the new majority ownership wanting to put their stamp on the transition.
