Padres release Cliff Floyd, Shawn Hill

The Padres announced today that they have released outfielder Cliff Floyd and Shawn Hill, according to MLB.com. Floyd missed nearly the entire season with a shoulder injury, played just 90 games in the past two seasons.

Floyd will be 37 in December, but teams may stay away from the oft-injured outfielder until he can prove he is healthy. He likely falls under the DH category on the free agent market, which is rather deep this offseason.

Hill has also been on the disabled list for most of the season, appearing in three games in 2009. Hill showed promise early in his career, but has failed to stay healthy over the past few years.

He could be picked up on a minor league deal.
