Cubs color commentator Bob Brenly told the Chicago Tribune he is open to returning to the dugout, having already spoken with Nationals GM Mike Rizzo about the vacancy.
"I did have a conversation with Mike when the Nationals were in Wrigley Field this year, and at that point it was way too premature," Brenly said. "At that point he couldn't say exactly what they were going to do."
Brenly has a World Series ring with the Diamondbacks, but hasn't managed since 2004. The Tribune suggests that he could wait until next season when Lou Piniella retires and take his chances with that opening. However, Ryne Sandberg and current bench coach Alan Trammell are also possibilities within the organization.
