Nationals to pursue John Lackey?

New, comments's Bill Ladson is reporting that the Nationals are planning on making a run at free agent pitcher John Lackey. The Nationals hope to bring in Lackey to be their ace, but also serve in a mentor role for their young starting pitchers. Lackey is likely looking at a five year deal in the 65-75 million dollar range, which the Nationals can afford in their 2010 payroll.

Lackey went 11-8 with a 3.83 ERA in 27 starts this past season, and is already drawing interest from the Brewers and Mets

He isn't expected to sign until after the Winter Meetings.
