Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post is reporting that the Mets plan to decline pitcher J.J. Putz's 9.1 million dollar club option for the 2010 season. Instead, the Mets will give Putz the one million dollar buyout, but there is no indication whether or not they will offer him an incentive-laden deal.
As for who could pursue Putz, it is unclear. The Red Sox always seem to be a possibility these days, but the Braves, Astros, and maybe Giants could make a move on the former closer turned set up man.
