The Phillies have signed catcher Brian Schneider, SI.com's Jon Heyman is reporting. Schneider, a career .251 hitter, played in just 59 games with the Mets last season.
Schneider will likely back up for starter Carlos Ruiz. Ruiz played well for the Phillies last season, especially in the postseason, and has a good relationship with his pitchers. Schneider is an excellent clubhouse player who has spent his entire career in the NL East, a total of 10 seasons with the Expos, Nationals, and Mets.
