Giants sign Masahide Kobayashi

Eh hem, Yomiuri Giants.

After a disappointing two years in the Major Leagues, where he posted 5.10 ERA in 67 appearances out of the Indians bullpen, Kobayashi will return to his native Japan to finish his career. Kobayashi was a very good reliever in Japan, but was certainly past his prime when he signed with the Indians.

From 1999-2006 with the Chiba Lotte Marines, Kobayashi went 34-23 with a 2.46 ERA. From 2006 to 2007, Kobayashi sees nearly his ERA from 2.68 to 3.61, while his BB/9 went up, his K/9 went down, and his WHIP jumped from 1.06 to 1.37.

It just goes to show how different the two leagues are.
