The Diamondbacks are meeting with free agent second baseman Kelly Johnson for a physical today, which would finalize the one year deal worth 2 million dollars they already have in place.
Johnson, 27, will take over the primary duties at second base, despite a disappointing 2009 season.
Johnson has had success in the past, and perhaps a change of scenery will benefit the left-handed infielder.
The Diamondbacks could try to use Johnson in a platoon role, considering he is a career .299 hitter versus lefties. Ryan Roberts and Tony Abreu could share the duties versus right-handers, considering the switch-hitting Abreu has hit .288 versus righties in 132 at-bats.
