The Detroit Tigers have extended manager Jim Leyland's contract through the 2011 season.
The Tigers announced the extension Friday. Tiger's general manager David Dombrowski said of Jim Leyland, "he is an outstanding manager" and the teams looks forward to him leading them "for years to come".
Leyland is in his forth year as manager of the Tigers. His current record stands at 292-260, which also includes leading Detroit to the AL Pennant in 2006.
Leyland, who began his major league career in 1963 when he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers, has also managed the Pittsburgh Pirates, Florida Marlins and Colorado Rockies.
