Report: Dodgers Interested In Mariners Washburn

According to a report in the LA Times, the Dodgers may be interested in acquiring Mariners pitcher Jarrod Washburn.

Washburn, who is 3-5 with a 3.24 era, has completed 11 quality starts in his 13 appearances this year.

It is expected that in order for this deal to happen the Dodgers would have to absorb some of the roughly $10 million that is owed to Washburn this year.

The Mariners are currently 35-34 and 2 ½ games behind the AL West leading Rangers.

It remains to be seen whether the Mariners truly believe they can make a run at the postseason, but as of today they are very much in contention.

I would expect the Mariners to hold off on dealing Washburn until closer to the July 31 deadline. At this point they should have a better idea what their long term prognosis would be.
