Carlos Beltran Headed to 15-Day DL

Amazin' Aveune is reporting that New York Mets centerfielder Carlos Beltran will be placed on the 15-day DL with a "bone bruise" on his right knee.

Beltran, who was sidelined for a few games in late May with the same injury, went for an MRI Monday that showed the bruise had gotten worse.

It appears Beltran could be on the disabled list longer than 15 days. When asked if the team would wait until after the All-Star break to activate Beltran, team GM Omar Minaya said it was something they would have to consider.

Beltran joins a plethora of Mets who have already been placed on the DL this year, including All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes, and Carlos Delgado.

Prior to today Beltran was batting .336 with eight homers and 40 RBIs.

Fernando Martinez is being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to take Beltran roster spot.
