According to ESPN.com Buster Olney, it appears the Florida Marlins may have some serious interest in Mark DeRosa.
Earlier in the week we reported that the three main contenders for DeRosa would be the Cardinals, Yankees and the Mets, however it now appears the Marlins have joined the list.
The Marlins are definitely in need of a third baseman. They have had dreadful production from the third base spot from both Wes Helms and Emilio Bonifacio.
We said earlier in the week that the biggest pitfall in the DeRosa deal may be teams unwillingness to part ways with young pitching, but the Marlins who are notorious for developing young starters certainly have the pieces.
The Marlins are riding a three game winning streak. They are 36-36 and sit three games behind the first place Phillies.
The more I look at DeRosa to the Marlins the more it makes sense. He is a high value low cost player, which certainly fits the Marlins criteria. The Indians are demanding young pitching in return and what better place to go then the Marlins. The Marlins are in contention in the NL East, so if the price is right I see no reason they don't make a serious offer.
