Sources have confirmed that the Minnesota Twins are in talks with the Pirates about several players, most notably 2B Freddy Sanchez and relievers Matt Capps and John Grabow. The Pirates have been active sellers since the beginning of the season, already trading Nate McLouth, Eric Hinske, Nyjer Morgan and Sean Burnett. They are clearly in a rebuilding mode and no one seems untouchable.
The Twins are not known for taking on big contracts and Sanchez's contact includes an $8 million option for next year but the Twins are coming on strong in their division, going 6-3 in their last 9 games to pull within 3 games of the Tigers.
