With Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamachhia dealing with arm issues, the Rangers have contacted several teams in need of catching help. Saltalamachhia had right shoulder soreness last week, but had to come out of yesterday's game with numbness in his right hand.
"It's tough," Saltalamacchia said. "I want to play. I don't want to hurt the team, but I want to play."
The Rangers are in search of a catcher to complement rookie backup Taylor Teagarden, who has struggled in limited action. The Rangers, if they cannot work out a trade, would make Teagarden the starter and make catcher Kevin Richardson the back up. With Texas is just 1.5 games back in the wild card and 4.5 back in the division, adding an impact bat could pay dividends down the road.
Ken Rosenthal mentions in his article that they could target backup Henry Blanco. However, Blanco would not have the same impact as a player like Miguel Montero. Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero could be made available if the Diamondbacks decided to put him on waivers.
With the Diamondbacks 16 games out of first place and primary catcher Chris Snyder locked up through 2012, it would be worth the Diamondbacks while to see what they could get for him.
