Mets ace Johan Santana needs surgery for bone chips in his left elbow and is out for the rest of the season, the latest blow to the already injury-depleted Mets.
"We all want to see Johan Santana pitching in September. But this is a smart move because we want to see him pitching for the long haul," he said.
Santana is expected to be ready for Spring Training.
Santana was putting together another great season, posting 3.13 ERA in 25 starts.
With the season bound to get worse, it is possible we could see some changes come to Jerry Manuel's coaching staff.
