The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that the Giants are likely to decline Freddy Sanchez's 8.1 million dollar club option. Can't really blame them here. Sanchez is set to have offseason surgery on his left knee, and hasn't done much to impress anyone since the All-Star break.
The Giants may approach Sanchez about a two year deal in the range of 10 or 11 million dollars. The Giants would likely have to have a vesting option for a third year to interest Sanchez, but in a down economy I'd say the risk is worth the reward that Sanchez can give a team.
A career .299 hitter, Sanchez won the NL batting title in 2006.
