Red Sox add Cuban defector

The Red Sox have signed 19-year old shortstop Jose Iglesias to a four year deal worth around 8 million dollars. Scouts say that Iglesias is an excellent field, combining good instincts with a solid arm.

"His hands and arm are deluxe," one American League executive said. "The question is how much he'll hit."

The question will be whether or not Iglesias can hit. Iglesias could be a Ryan Theriot-type hitter, but he is an overachiever, according to scouts, so he has a lot of potential. His deal kicks in in 2010, and he will be on the 40-man roster.
